Hot Peppers - Garden Salsa
The Hot Pepper Garden Salsa, 'Capsicum annuum', has moderate to hot pungent fruit and has medium-thick walls tapering to a point. The Garden Salsa pepper is a perfect variety for home-made salsa with just the right amount of "heat". Garden Salsa is a tapered hot pepper with numerous 7-8 inch long by 1 inch wide peppers. The medium pungency is perfect for home made salsa, sauces and pickling. Garden Salsa is Tobacco Mosaic reisistant and matures from dark green to red. Transplant outside in the spring 3 to 4 weeks after last frost date. Note: To get a jump on the season transplant outside, use a walls-of-water or some black plastic to maintain and increase temperatures. Plant in average garden soil with sufficient organic matter. Tomato - Rutgers Select The Tomato Rutgers Select, 'Lycopersicon lycopersicum', is an all-purpose variety that is ideal for canning. The Rutgers Select variety ripens evenly from inside out. Rutgers Select produces medium round globe fruits with smooth firm flesh that is ideal for canning and slicing. The bright red fruits have a full-bodied flavor in an attractive old-time favorite. This is a great canner and makes a great BLT too. Tomatoes should be planted outside after the last average frost date. In warm winter/hot summer areas, tomatoes can be planted in early fall for winter harvest. Tomatoes prefer well drained soil that is high in organic matter. Tomatoes need at least 1 inch of water a week. Soak to depth of 6 to 10 inches when watering. |
