Northwood Maple

The Northwood Maple, Acer rubrum 'Northwood', is an excellent shade tree with ascending branches and a round, oval form. The dark green summer foliage turns orange to red in the fall. This maples is easily grown in well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. It is tolerant of a wide range of soils, but requires moist, slightly acid conditions for optimum growth and color. It is very cold hardy. Reaching an height of 50 feet and a width of 35 feet, it is an excellent specimen tree for the lawn, street or park. Pignut Hickory It occurs with other hickories and with oaks, characteristically on hillsides and ridges. The nuts of this particular hickory, unlike some of the others, are bitter and scarcely edible. The nuts they are an important food for squirrels and chipmunks and other wildlife.
